We need to build millions of homes in places that are not in the crosshairs of climate destruction. We need to do it fast. We should embrace California Forever, and hope that we see many other efforts like it (and even more ambitious in scale and ruggedization efforts).

I want California Forever to be built so badly so that we can prove that it really is possible to build cities like this again. Existing cities will no longer have any excuses.

Based on headlines, I was skeptical of the “California Forever” project in Solano county, so this episode was eye-opening. Building “the Irvine of NorCal” makes lots of sense, and sounds way different than building “a billionaire-funded tech utopia.”

I’m excited about a walkable city of 400,000! Let’s embrace the California spirit that brought us the Master Plan for Higher Education, the State Water Project, and even the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. California can still do big things.

Vision like this out of @CAForever makes me want to grab my shovel and start digging foundations. We can build beautiful new places for people to build their lives. A bunch of really smart ideas to make functional neighborhoods too. Can’t wait to visit!

This is the problem @CAForever solves: America in the 21st century must co-locate high-growth urban environments with places of high desirability & high talent density.

I want to move to California, I support a planned community, affordable housing, urban setting, close to restaurants and professional services.

As a career public servant, I believe that growing California is key to California's success. We must build more housing and create more opportunities for everyone; and we cannot afford to be too picky about where the housing is built and through what methods. The California Forever project has the potential to be a key site for California's advancement.

I’m a Brentwood, California resident and fully support this initiative and improving the lives of our neighbors in Solano County.
I’m also very excited for the fact that this would greatly help the local communities and the next generation in the area to have access to job opportunities.
I myself have been working in Silicon Valley tech for the last 10 years and have realized how important it is for us to keep expanding the region to bring opportunities for the generations to come and have access to the American Dream.
I am also a real-estate investor in the far east bay region which is the other reason why this project excites me a lot.

Very exciting to see advocacy groups getting behind California Forever. I was sold even before I read the entire thing, but I’m always into normalizing the process of careful, iterative, and continuous construction of beautiful places for people to exist.
I believe Solano will be a blueprint for better-informed infill development and redevelopment of all of California’s cities.
My city has about 3500 structures and a current mean replacement time of 300+ years. This is unsustainable, as most of the 1950s era homes will be rebuilt in the next couple of decades, hopefully informed by Solano’s successful example.

If California Forever doesn’t happen, the land will eventually become a standard sprawling exurb like Mountain House. Worst case scenario, California Forever becomes a secluded dense walkable town. Best case scenario, it becomes a model for new development.

California Forever gives me more hope for the future of real urbanism than anything else I’ve seen built in California in all my adult life.

I grew up in California and intend to return upon completion of my education which will only be possible if California is booming economically. The best and only way to fundamentally transform and bolster a state’s economic conditions is to build, and that is exactly what constructing the Solano shipyard will accomplish. I fully support California Forever in doing whatever it can to make California prosperous.

Good to see @cayimby come out in support of California Forever.
We need both infill and greenfield development if we want to make an impact on the CA housing shortage.
Walkable and mixed use new development is something everyone should support.

I think we really need a new wave of building in California that is not just urban sprawl or masterplanned singe-family homes. I'm excited to see this city form its own culture with a mix of modern and unique architecture styles and new industries like heavy industry that are rarer in NorCal. I really hope it can become a beacon that beautiful cities can still be built in the 21st century!

I am optimistic about California Forever. Everything I’ve seen and read so far looks like what the New Urbanists have been trying to get on the ground for 40 years. Including leveling the playing field so urbanism can get permitted as easily as sprawl.
